The prices of photovoltaic panels for prosumers’ installations are the lowest they have ever been and a project can quickly amortise in 4-5 years. However, there are several risks associated with an investment in prosumers’ rooftop PV, said Razvan Ilie, Sales Manager at Volt.
“There is a lack of beneficiary education. They look, when they want to install a photovoltaic system, first and foremost at the price, the implementation time and the quality. When quality comes third, there is a risk that the system will not operate at the capacity it should,” he said at the conference “Digitalization and Energy Efficiency – Timisoara”, organised by Energynomics.
Other risks of such an investment are that the initial investment may be higher if the costs of grid connection works increase, inconsistency of authorities and lack of a well-defined timeline from the authorities with regard to funding programmes, which causes projects to stagnate and not align with EC rules.

Other impediments relate to the need for complete, consistent information and proper selection of general contractors, as well as design and implementation mistakes identified in the market. Volt therefore offers PV projects to prosumers on a rental or instalment basis. The company now has 30 projects totalling 145 MW in various stages of execution and development.
