At the level of local governments, there is enormous potential for the installation of photovoltaic panels, both for own consumption and for delivery to the network, and Piatra Neamț City Hall is analyzing several projects regarding energy production by installing photovoltaic panels on the roofs of some schools and on a piece of land in the vicinity of the city, declared Vlad Moscalu, public administrator in Piatra Neamț City Hall.
“Piatra-Neamț City Hall has at least 15 schools with a capacity to install photovoltaic panels of at least 200 kW per unit and a multipurpose hall of at least 800 kW. Adding them up, we reach over 4 MW on just a few types of roofs that UAT has. Then, we have the open spaces, such as public parking lots, where we put another 3 MW. If we also add the areas available to the Neamț County Council, the parameters already change”, stated Moscalu.
He added that, although it is difficult to find spaces large enough for larger photovoltaic projects on the outskirts of cities, Piatra-Neamț City Hall has identified a space suitable for a 12 MW photovoltaic park. “The green potential in cities is enormous,” Moscalu said, at the conference “Sustainable Communities – Iasi”, organized by Energynomics and SmartiCity.
At the same time, an increasing interest in the use of heat pumps is visible, but the installation of many such systems puts additional pressure on the electricity distribution networks, many of which are outdated and at the limit in terms of the ability to take energy from adjacent sources.
He added that the Piatra-Neamț City Hall is also considering carrying out other types of energy efficiency and digitization projects, such as the installation of an intelligent traffic management system equipped with smart traffic lights, video cameras for the recognition of registration numbers and a lighting system public more effectively. The institution is also prospecting the construction of a bike sharing system with more than 20 electric bicycle charging stations or the installation of 80 public transport monitoring stations and charging stations for electric cars.
