The National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) does not include any of the planned investments in the Port of Constanta, indicating that the political factor has neglected the port over the past 30 years. It was only the conflict in Ukraine that has generated positive effects, said Laurențiu Mironescu, vice-president of the Constanta Port Business Association – CPBA.
“None of the major investments of the port of Constanta are in the NRRP. So, if the biggest asset of the transport system (of oil products) in Romania is not in the NRRP, it means that something has gone wrong. The port has rather benefited from the conflict in Ukraine. Only since then has it been able to have the relevance it deserves,” he said, at the conference “Digitalization and Energy Efficiency – Constanța”.
Thus, since the outbreak of the conflict in Ukraine, the volume of cargo transited through the Port of Constanta has increased to 92 million tonnes, from 75 million tonnes in 2022 and 64 million tonnes in 2021. According to Mironescu, the port is on an “aggressive upward trend” in this respect.
Constanta Port Business Association has 40 member companies generating 5,500 direct jobs on the port platform.
