All companies in Romania that are comprised in the European Regulation will pay the solidarity tax: they will not be able to escape, said the Minister of Energy, Virgil Popescu, present on Tuesday evening at the Oltenia Energy Complex.

“I am convinced that all the companies in Romania that are in that European Regulation and in that transposition of the European Regulation will pay the solidarity tax. They will not be able to escape, as you have also seen the statement from ANAF”, said Popescu, according to Agerpres.

On the other hand, when asked about the amount of gas that Romania currently has in storage, the official said that there are 2.230 billion cubic meters, i.e. “somewhere at 68%, well above the level of emptying that was forecast” .

Last week, the Austrian group OMV announced, regarding the payment of the solidarity tax in Romania, that “OMV Petrom would not be included in the scope of this solidarity contribution for the fiscal year 2022, having less than 75% of the turnover from the defined sectors: crude oil extraction, natural gas extraction, oil extraction and oil refining”.

Shortly after the OMV’s announcement, the Ministry of Finance conveyed, through a press release, that the transposition of the Regulation into national legislation covers the entire energy sector and, in this case, all companies active in the field.
