Power, among the highest prices in May: almost 17% yoy

Electricity is among the segments with highest price increases in May this year, compared to May 2020, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics published on Friday.

According to the INS, electricity has risen by 16.97% compared to the same period in 2020 and by 18.22% compared to December 2020. Compared to April 2021, the price of electricity has remained the same. In May 2021, compared to the same month of the previous year, in the chapter of non-food goods there are reductions in gas, by 2.16%, and in thermal energy, by 0.21%, while fuels became more expensive by 11.49%, and tobacco and cigarettes by 7.03%, according to Agerpres.

Air transport services became cheaper during the mentioned period by 16.32%. Compared to the previous month, air transport services were the most, with 2.27%.

The annual inflation rate rose to 3.8% in May this year, from 3.2% in April, given that non-food goods rose by 5.70%, food by 1.52%, and services by 2.78%, according to data published on Friday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

“Consumer prices in May 2021 compared to April 2021 increased by 0.5%. The inflation rate at the beginning of the year (May 2021 compared to December 2020) is of 3.1%. The annual inflation rate in May 2021 compared to May 2020 is of 3.8%. The average rate of consumer prices in the last 12 months (June 2020 – May 2021) compared to the previous 12 months (June 2019 – May 2020) is of 2.8%,” the statement said.
