The new provisions of the law on storage and storage made by prosumers are inappropriate and inapplicable in the form in which they are regulated, claims President Klaus Iohannis, who asked the Parliament to reexamine the Law that introduces the obligation of prosumers to ensure both the production and storage of energy.

The head of state shows that Romania’s goal of becoming a neutral country from the point of view of carbon emissions, including through the use of renewable energy sources, risks not being able to become a reality. “I encourage the Parliament to identify those legislative solutions that will reduce the burden of additional costs that are too high for prosumers regarding the purchase of electricity storage capacities,” says the president.

“Romania aims to expand its solar energy production capacity and improve national access to solar electricity at affordable prices. This is what I stated at the time of Romania’s accession to the International Solar Alliance, in December 2023. Following the adoption by the Parliament, I received for promulgation the draft law no. 255/2024 regarding the measures applicable to final customers in the electricity and natural gas market, as well as for the modification and completion of some normative acts in the field of energy. Through an amendment concerning the obligation of prosumers to ensure both the production and storage of energy, Romania’s objective of becoming a neutral country from the point of view of carbon emissions, including through the use of renewable energy sources, risks not being able to become a reality,” says President Klaus Iohannis in a press release quoted by News.ro.

The head of state points out that “one of the priorities of my mandates was the issue of energy security and climate change, and from this perspective he was a permanent supporter of the technical and legislative regulations that would make it possible for more and more Romanians to own energy production facilities electrical, photovoltaic panels that will primarily ensure their own energy consumption, as well as the possibility to direct the excess energy produced into the network.”
