A Republican Congressman has tabled a bill that, if adopted, will require the US Government to engage, financially and diplomatically, in supporting any project in Central and Eastern Europe that strengthens energy security and diversification of sources of supply, to counter Russia’s growing influence.

The legislative initiative is called the European Energy Security and Diversification Act of 2019″ and belongs to the Republican Congressman Adam Daniel Kinzinger, according to e-nergia.ro.

Basically, if it is voted, the bill will bring US $1 billion in public funding to Eastern Europe to support Eastern Europe’s energy projects that aim to reduce dependence on Russian gas, in addition to other sources.

The aim of the bill is to “prioritize efforts and improve coordination between US agencies to encourage Central and Eastern European countries to diversify their energy sources and supply routes, increase Europe’s energy security and help the United States achieve its goals global energy security as well as for other purposes”.
