Last year, in Romania were produced about 65.600 GWh of electricity, 1.13% more than in 2014, while consumption rose to 58.869 GWh, show Transelectrica data.

Broken down by resources, the most significant increase was registered in the production of photovoltaic energy, of 22.58%, the generation of this sector totaling 2.003 GWh.

The biggest share of the total electricity production was held last year by the energy extracted from coal (30%), followed by hydro (26%), nuclear (20%), the energy extracted from hydrocarbons (15%), wind energy (8%), biomass (1%) and solar PV (1%), also point out Transelectrica data.

Coal increased by 1.17% over 2014, totaling 18.345 GWh, hydropower decreased by approximately 12.3%, wind power grew by 13.88%, production from biomass increased by 2.9% and the nuclear energy suffered a decline of 0.33%.

Regarding the international energy trading, the physical balance (exports minus imports) in 2015 was 6.728 GWh, a decrease compared to 2014 by 5.52%, but 234% higher than in 2013.
