The Republic of Moldova must promote itself as a country open to investment in renewable energy production capacity, as this is a priority for the country’s economy, said Mariana Rufa, Executive Director of the European Business Association (EBA), during the “Regional Approach Chișinău” conference organized by Energynomics.

“Some investors waited five years to complete their investments, which was not a positive signal. We need to move forward on the legislative framework and promote Moldova as an open country in the renewables area, to financially stimulate and create support mechanisms for business to increase investments in renewables,” she added.

The association has been active for 12 years in the Republic of Moldova and represents the interests of more than 100 companies, of which more than 60 are companies with European capital.

According to Mariana Rufa, the association has been fighting for the last five years to change the legislative framework and has succeeded in “moving things”. At the same time, the political will to open up the renewables market to investors is visible. A recent step in this direction is the approval by the government in Chisinau of new legislation in the field, which will allow the current bottlenecks to be resolved.

Rufa added that the authorities need to mobilise financial resources not only for small companies that want to invest in renewables, but also for medium-sized companies that, with the new installations of renewable energy generation capacity, will be able to earn more revenue and, as a result, will be able to pay more dividends and contribute more to the state budget.

“We see an unprecedented openness on the part of the EC and the Moldovan government to open the market,” she said.

The conference “Regional Approach Chișinău” was organized by Energynomics with the support of our partners Huawei, Siemens Energy, Transgaz.
