Rețele Electrice Romania has launched the public tender through the Electronic System for Public Procurement (SEAP) for the modernisation works of the energy infrastructure in the communes of Ștefan cel Mare, Perișoru and Borcea, Călărași County. The estimated value of the contract is RON 77.89 million and the deadline for submission of bids is 18 March 2025.

The announcement represents a significant opportunity for companies interested in a large-scale project, partly financed by the Modernisation Fund, with a maximum contribution of 57 million lei. The investment will not only support the development of the distribution network, but will also involve specialised suppliers in areas such as electrical infrastructure, fibre optics, automation and remote control.

The main works aim to modernise and extend the distribution networks, with a focus on improving efficiency and security of supply. As part of the project, the Perișoru overhead medium-voltage power line will be replaced and undergrounded over a length of about 35 kilometres. Some 50 kilometres of low-voltage networks will also be upgraded and the fibre-optic infrastructure will be extended to integrate the SCADA remote control system, which will allow faster and more efficient management of energy distribution.

An important component of the project is the modernisation and relocation of transformer substations to optimise network reliability and facilitate technical interventions. In total, 11 transformer substations will be rehabilitated, of which nine will be relocated in new concrete envelopes and two will be rebuilt in the public domain. In addition, six new transformer substations and three connection points will be installed, all with modern equipment and automation systems. These interventions will help increase continuity of supply and minimise the risk of interruptions.

For consumers in the area, the project brings significant improvements, including modernised connections for more than 2,500 homes in Stefan cel Mare and Perișoru. This stage involves moving metering groups to the property boundary and rebuilding subscriber columns, measures designed to optimise distribution and ensure a safer and more efficient infrastructure.

Another advantage of implementing the project is minimising environmental impact. By modernising the equipment and reducing energy losses, the investment will contribute to lower CO₂ emissions, thus aligning with the sustainability and energy efficiency objectives of the PPC Group, of which Rețele Electrice Romania is part.

The company Rețele Electrice Romania is one of the most important energy distribution operators in the country, managing approximately 134,000 kilometres of electricity networks in South Muntenia (including Bucharest), Banat and Dobrogea. Through its investment programme, the company aims to improve the quality of service, safety and performance of the electricity grids, while implementing new environmental and operational efficiency standards.
