The embargo on Russian crude oil will not affect Romania, given that the oil companies in our country have found alternative resources and no longer bring oil from the Russian Federation, said the Minister of Energy, Virgil Popescu.
“We didn’t sit idly by waiting for December 5 (the date of entry into force of the embargo – n.r.), but we held several discussions with the oil companies and all the refineries in Romania since last week process only non-Russian crude oil, so Romania is independent of Russian crude oil. We will not have problems with the supply of oil and oil products, once the embargo comes into force,” said the government official.
According to him, the Government’s decision to subsidize the fuel price by 0.50 RON per liter proved to be good.
“Gas stocks are more than 2.8 billion cubic meters, we monitor them daily, there is no problem. We have no problems with the supply of gas, oil or electricity this winter either. We will get through this winter,” Popescu added, according to Agerpres.
He also said that Romania still supports capping the price of all gas imported into the EU.
“On December 13, we will have an extraordinary council on energy, where we will discuss the capping of the price of imported gas throughout Europe, regardless of origin. Romania is in the group of states that want this capping. I said that the European Commission’s proposal for a cap of 275 of euros is an invitation to increase the price, we do not agree and we are working intensively. We have to take into account all the stock exchanges in the world and we cannot have much higher prices at the European level than at the other exchanges,” the minister stated.
