Romania has already exceeded its gas storage target set for August 1, stated today, at the Government, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, George Niculescu.
In the case of Romania, the current storage level is 55%, above the mandatory level of 46% on August 1, 2022, according to Ministry of Energy officials.
“In the context of yesterday’s decision of the EU Energy Council, State Secretary George Niculescu presented to the Government the situation of gas reserves. The estimate of the Ministry of Energy is that on August 1 the degree of filling of the deposits will be 58.7%, therefore 12.7% more than the intermediate target – of 46% – which had to be reached on August 1. Romania will not have problems with gas requirements for the next winter,” say ME officials.
“Romania, by its consumption profile, but also by the availability of internal sources of natural gas, is well positioned to face the winter of 2022-2023. If additional measures to reduce gas consumption are required, household consumers, SMEs, social services or critical industry will not be covered.”
The measures adopted by the member states in order to prepare for winter aim at increasing energy efficiency, the use of renewable energy sources and those with low carbon emissions and baseload production, strengthening interconnections at the level of the natural gas network and adopting measures to protect the population and industry in the context of rising energy prices.
