More than 250 buildings in Romania have been certified as green buildings, and most of them, respectively 75%, are in Bucharest, according to a statement from the consultancy firm BuildGreen.
The capital is followed by Cluj-Napoca, Timişoara and Brasov.
“The implementation of sustainable development norms has already become a widespread practice on the Romanian real estate market. We already have office buildings with sophisticated systems that reduce energy consumption and increase the comfort of the occupants, buildings designed to achieve the maximum levels of sustainable certification, a bigger opening for green certifications by the developers of residential projects and the first sustainable factory. On the other hand, over 95% of the buildings in the public sector and inaugurated before 2010 require renovations and improvements, so there is still much to be done,” says Răzvan Nica, managing directly BuildGreen, quoted by Agerpres. BuildGreen was involved in 2019 in the certification of over 20 real estate projects.
The year 2019 brought the first sustainable certifications of BREEAM Outstanding, the highest level globally, obtained by two stores – Lidl and Penny Market, located in Bucharest and Otopeni. Also, the Bucharest Business Garden office project, developed by Vastint, obtained the highest level of certification on the American LEED scheme.
BuildGreen data shows that real estate projects that achieve a high level of sustainable certification will benefit from an energy efficiency of 25% – 35% on average, with employee comfort and productivity also being higher.
