Romania, Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova have agreed to conclude a trilateral intergovernmental agreement to stimulate interconnections and cooperation in the field of energy and increase bilateral exchanges of electricity by concluding short, medium and long-term bilateral contracts, announced the Minister of Energy, Virgil Popescu.
He attended on Thursday, together with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bogdan Aurescu, the first trilateral meeting of the ministers of foreign affairs and energy from Romania, Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, held in Odessa, in Ukraine.
“Regarding cooperation in the field of energy, the focus was placed, during the meeting, on the immediate support measures that are necessary for Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova to face the cold season, but also on long-term measures to strengthen energy security of them, with an emphasis on regional interconnection, taking into account the need to combat the use of energy for geopolitical purposes. Thus, it was agreed to conclude a trilateral intergovernmental agreement to stimulate interconnections and cooperation in the energy field of Romania, Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova. Also, we agreed to increase the bilateral exchanges of electricity between the three states by concluding short, medium and long-term bilateral contracts,” the minister wrote on his Facebook page, according to Agerpres.
The meeting in Odessa was attended by the Minister of Energy from Ukraine, German Galushchenko, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development from the Republic of Moldova, Andrei Spînu, the Minister of Foreign Affairs from Chisinau, Nicu Popescu, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs from Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba.
