Romania will achieve a degree of 15-16% of interconnection with its neighbors, and at the present time the Ministry of Energy is working to restore the capacity mechanism, says Elena Popescu, general manager of the Ministry of Energy.
„An important aspect of the Integrated National Energy Plan and Climate Change Project 2021-2030 is interconnection and Romania aims to reach a 15-16% rate by 2030,” said Popescu at an event organized by EPG .
The Minister is aware of the fact that there is no energy transition without the market coupling. At the same time, it is working to establish a new capacity mechanism, as the capacities currently reported do not correspond to reality.
For the 2030 modeling, the ME has considered an increase in energy demand that will result in the inclusion of 4,300 MW of wind and 3,000 MW of solar in the 27,9% target currently proposed by the current government of Romania. Coal will stay in the mix, but Romania will have to have in mind the social cost, Popescu also said.
