According to centralized data by the end of December, Romania ended the year with a fleet of 54,471 electric cars, of which 49,594 are passenger cars, claims LEKTRI.CO, one of the most important players in the field of electric mobility in Romania.

According to the LEKTRI.CO analysis, which is based on official data published by DRPCIV, by December 31, 2024, the following electric vehicles were registered in Romania: 49,594 passenger cars, 1,681 goods vehicles, 1,503 buses and minibuses, 1,652 motorcycles, 20 tractors, 13 special purpose vehicles and 8 mopeds. LEKTRI.CO’s analysis takes into account passenger cars and goods vehicles.
In 2024, the number of electric vehicles registered in Romania increased by 27% compared to the previous year, from 40,286 units to 51,230 vehicles. At the same time, the range of electric cars has diversified. Overall, the growth rate of the electric vehicle market has decreased, influenced by several factors. The subsidy for the purchase of electric vehicles offered by the state has decreased compared to previous years, and in parallel, the market anticipates the launch of the Dacia Spring model, the most popular in Romania. The chart below shows the electric car brands with over 300 registrations in Romania by the end of 2024. Dacia Spring leads the ranking by a long way, with 17,947 registered vehicles, followed by Tesla, which has 8,457 registrations. The podium is completed by Volkswagen, with 4,895 electric cars registered in Romania. The three car brands represent 61% of the entire electric car fleet in Romania.
In terms of models, Dacia Spring, along with Tesla Model 3 and Tesla Model Y are the best-selling electric cars in Romania, representing 50% of all electric cars.
“We are noticing a slowdown in the growth of the electric car market in Romania, but this result was expected given the similar trend at the European Union level, but also the significant decrease in subsidies offered by the government to those who decide to purchase such a car. We believe, however, that the local market will experience a revival with the launch of the new Dacia Spring model,” said Claudiu Suma, CEO, LEKTRI.CO.
