The first company to express its intention to export natural gas to Moldova through Iași – Ungheni interconnector is Romgaz. Virgil Metea, the general manager of Romgaz confirmed the company’s state company to export gas.
“We will participate in the bidding for capacity reservation on Iași – Ungheni and we want to export gas. We do not know yet at what price we will do it, depends on the counterparty in Moldova. Ideal would be a market price”, said Metea quoted by economica.net.
He also states that, given that the current maximum capacity of the pipeline is 45 million cubic meters per year, Romgaz can cover this need. According to ANRE, the price for gas exports would be the one at market level, about 80 USD/MWh, about 300 dollars per thousand cubic meters.
Annual production of Romgaz amounts to about 6 billion cubic meters, while Romania’s total production amounts to nearly 12 billion cubic meters of gas.
According to Transgaz, reservation of capacity is pro-rata, depending on who and what amount requests. “The procedure was just approved, not started yet. We will publish all the procedure for granting capacity soon”, said Petru Văduva, CEO TRANSGAZ.
Only gas suppliers in Romania could export gas to Moldova. Gas producers qualify for this because they have also supply license. On August 27, they will inaugurate Iași – Ungheni pipeline, through which Romanian suppliers will start exporting gas to Moldova.
