Oil companies around the world are waiting for the start of the 11th Round of concessions for oil perimeters in Romania, during which 22 onshore and six offshore fields will be auctioned, said Stephen Birell, president of the Association of Oil Exploration and Production Companies in Romania (ROPEPCA), in a meeting with the press.
He pointed out that, although the National Mineral Resources Authority (ANRM) declared the 11th round of tenders open last summer, the announcement has not yet been published in the Official Journal of the European Union. “We don’t know why it hasn’t been published yet, and we don’t know when it will be published,” Birell said.
Asked if there is interest from the oil sector for these perimeters, he replied: “Absolutely, yes! I have presented this in the meetings we have had with various groups, in the EU and in the United Kingdom, and one of the groups includes 63 oil companies. There are interested companies and money available for these investments. The problem is stability and predictability.”
In July 2019, ANRM announced that it is offering by public appeal the concession of 28 perimeter for oil exploration, development and exploitation operations, during the XI round of tenders, according to an order of the ANRM president, published in the Official Gazette on July 24, according to Agerpres.
ANRM also published the list of these perimeters. There are 22 onshore and six offshore oil fields, with a total area of approximately 1,000 square kilometers.
