The Scarabeo 9 drilling plant starts drilling in the Trident perimeter, explored by Lukoil and Romgaz, a resource perimeter estimated at 30 billion cubic meters of gas.

“The Scarabeo 9 drilling rig will operate from now on in the Trident perimeter, explored by Lukoil and Romgaz, in co-participation, with the help of colleagues from the Petroleum Services Group (Grup Servicii Petroliere) and Saipem, which provides the operating part and other services. It is a great success from my point of view, which, we hope wholeheartedly, precedes other important achievements regarding the exploration in the Black Sea. The estimated resource stands somewhere at over 30 billion cubic meters. The estimation comes after all the calculations, here we are talking about seismic data interpretation, drilling, all the others,” said the general director of Romgaz, Adrian Volintiru, quoted by Agerpres.

Gabriel Comănescu, CEO and president of the Petroleum Services Group (GSP), said that in perimeter 30 (Trident) this will be the second well, after 2014. “In perimeter 30 this is the second well, only research is being conducted on a new lead. Perimeter 30 was discovered at the first campaign of 2014. The first probe was drilled by GSP – Transocean. Now there is also an exploration probe that investigates the second lead. If this also finds a reserve, follows step 2 for the contouring probes. In a minimum of 6 months- a maximum of 12 months a decision will be taken about phase 2, the next phase. (…) The costs for this stage exceed 100 million dollars. The ship is leaving for sea position today. Around 4-5 November drilling begins. The duration is of 61 days, following a testing period. If it enters the layer and the layer is what we are looking for, the test period follows, of 30 days. We talk of 61 days to 90 days,” Comănescu explained.
