OMV Petrom and Energy Policy Group (EPG) announce the completion of the renovation and rehabilitation works of the Liliești Secondary School in Băicoi, carried out as part of the România Eficientă program. This is the second educational institution in the country to have been modernized at almost zero energy consumption standards (nZEB). The first unit renovated through România Eficientă was the “Elie Radu” Energetic Technological High School in Ploiești, in 2022.

The total investment in this project was EUR 1.6 mn, supported by OMV Petrom through the România Eficientă program, run by Energy Policy Group (EPG).

“More than 80% of Romanians consider that the energy improvement of schools is a priority. Also, education about responsible energy consumption is essential for a cleaner environment and sustainable economic development. Through the Romania Eficienta program, we’ve shown what can be done – two schools have been modernized to have a minimum energy consumption. We will continue to support the project; another two education institutions are to be rehabilitated during this year,” said Christina Verchere, CEO of OMV Petrom.

“The energy efficiency of buildings has become more important than ever, in the new security context in the region, when each saved kWh matters. Also, we must not ignore the effects of climate change, which we are feeling more and more. The nZEB renovation offers solutions to many problems, making buildings more energy efficient, more sustainable and resilient, as well as more comfortable,” added Radu Dudău, President of EPG and coordinator of the România Eficientă program.

The rehabilitation works carried out at the Secondary School Liliești will generate an annual reduction of about 60% of the energy consumption for the thermal heating of the building. This result can also be achieved with the help of the new system formed of 5 heating pumps provided by Siemens Energy, who joined as a sponsor to this renovation project. In addition, the school will benefit from “green” electricity, obtained from its own sources, through a system of 30 photovoltaic panels with an installed power of 550W each.

Alongside the reduction of energy bills, after the renovation at nZEB standards, the approximately 450 pupils who learn at the Secondary School Liliești in Băicoi, under the guidance of circa 40 teachers, will benefit from the best conditions for school performance.
