The City Hall of Sector 6 launched on 20 December the tender for the installation of 40 electric vehicle charging stations, an important project to support the transition to electric mobility.
The 40 charging stations will be installed in the public domain, distributed on 28 streets, mostly in the Drumul Taberei and Militari neighbourhoods. Each station will be equipped with two recharging points, fed from the public electricity grid. One point will allow vehicles to be charged in direct current (DC), with a power of 50 kW, and the second point will operate in alternating current (AC), with a power of 22 kW. The locations were selected according to the number of electric vehicles registered in the sector, as per the owners’ addresses.
In March 2022, when the initial application for funding for the 40 stations was submitted, there were 3,760 electric and hybrid cars registered in Sector 6. In July 2023, when the project was approved by the Environmental Fund Administration (AFM), over 4,000 electric and hybrid cars were registered, and this has now passed the 10,000 threshold, after a 15 per cent increase in 2024 compared to 2023.
The project has a total cost of 6.17 million lei (excluding VAT) and the financing is provided by AFM.
The Municipality of Sector 6 will continue to develop the infrastructure for electric vehicles. In November 2022, the administration submitted a new project to the AFM to finance 150 additional charging stations. These will be located in 71 locations, predominantly between blocks, to facilitate access from close proximity to homes. The new stations will have a power of 7.4 kW each, will include two recharging points and will be equipped with solar panels to increase sustainability. The total value of this investment amounts to 10.41 million lei, of which 8.99 million lei is grant funding obtained from AFM.
The Mayor Ciprian Ciucu referred to the policy of encouraging the use of electric vehicles to reduce pollution and for long-term savings. “We have changed a large part of the fleet of cars of the Local Police Sector 6 with electric ones, which do not pollute and help us to save the money we used to spend on fuel,” said the mayor.
