The Senate approved, on Tuesday, the law initiated by USR, for the establishment of the “forest DNA”, a prosecutor’s office unit, the Directorate for the Investigation of Environmental Crimes, which will investigate environmental crimes, especially illegal deforestation.
“The Save Romania – USR Union project for the establishment of a prosecutor’s office to investigate illegal logging has been adopted! The colleagues from the Parliament who started this bill are Cornel Zainea, Stelian Ion, Silviu Dehelean, Mihai Goţiu, George Edward Dircă and Allen Coliban,” wrote on Facebook Mihai Goţiu, one of the initiators, according to zf.ro.
The USR bill establishing the Directorate for the Investigation of Environmental Crimes – DIIM (Forest DNA) was voted in the Senate with 119 votes in favor, no votes against and 11 abstentions.
The USR leaders mention that the UDMR senators abstained from this vote, as “over time tried to hunt the state forests and took advantage of the deforestation.”
