Senate removes obligation to install batteries for prosumers

The Senate plenary voted to remove the provision regarding the mandatory installation of storage batteries for all prosumers, not just for the current ones, according to the final form sent to the Chamber of Deputies – decision-making body – writes e-nergia.ro.

UDMR Senator Antal Lóránt, chairman of the Senate Energy Committee, declared last week that “we cannot change the rules during the game. We cannot oblige people who have made the decision to become prosumers under certain legal circumstances valid in the past to comply with new provisions, adopted through amendments that do not respect the principle of non-retroactivity.”

Antal was of course referring to the amendment already voted by the Parliament in the summer, but that law was sent for re-examination by the President and not promulgated – the one that introduced the obligation to install storage facilities for existing prosumers as well. Something that, in addition to problems of retroactivity, also led to additional costs and technical problems.

Only now, after the request for reconsideration and after the vote of the Senate, the point in the law sent back by the President, which referred to the mandatory storage, has disappeared altogether. And he was referring both to the obligation to install batteries for existing installations, as well as for future ones.
