The signing of the Support Agreement between the Romanian State – the Government of Romania, the General Secretariat of the Government, the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Transport – and the National Nuclearelectrica company, in order to develop the National Strategic Project Units 3 and 4 CNE Cernavodă, which took place on June 9, demonstrates, once again, the support and importance given to the Romanian energy sector and the need to develop new electricity production capacities, it is stated in a press release from the Henro association, which brings together the largest electricity companies production from the Romanian energy sector.
The support agreement between the Romanian State and SN Nuclearelectrica for the development of the Project of Units 3 and 4 at CNE Cernavodă allows the start of activities related to Stage II of the Project, respectively the conclusion of contracts for the development of the critical engineering necessary to update the project; updating the Project budget; structuring and contracting financing and agreeing an appropriate contractual architecture for the implementation of the Project; obtaining the favorable Opinion of the European Commission following the notification of the Project according to art. 41 of the EURATOM Treaty and of a positive decision in accordance with the relevant European provisions on state aid; obtaining the Nuclear Security Authorization for the Construction stage and taking the Final Investment Decision, for the transition to Stage III (Construction).
Thus, increasing the installed power by another 1,400 MW means a production of about 10 TWh of clean, stable and predictable energy for the operation of the national economy and the continuity of supply to all consumers, domestic and non-domestic. In addition, it is a guarantee that Romania can achieve its decarbonization targets and become a provider of energy security in the region.
The share of the installed capacities of the member companies Henro and Romatom will exceed 70%, taking into account the ongoing investments with the use of hydro, photovoltaic and natural gas sources. It will also increase the share of clean production which, during this period, represents over 80% of national consumption through the contribution of our companies.
The development of renewable energy sources involves the implementation of new capacities capable of ensuring the flexibility of the electricity production sector and the projects announced or being carried out by the members of Henro and Romatom demonstrate that Romania is aligning itself with the new paradigm in the field of electricity generation, in order to decarbonize the Romanian energy sector and industry.
