Unit 1 of Cernavoda NPP will be shut down for maintenance starting with the night of Friday to Saturday (January 22 to 23, 2021) for several works, as a result of a failure in its classic technological circuit, announced SN Nuclearelectrica (SNN).

The power reduction maneuvers will start on January 23, 2021, at 0:01.

SNN representatives say that the controlled shutdown of Unit 1, initially announced for the night of January 15 to 16, 2021, was postponed to ensure the production of electricity needed by the National Energy System, due to extremely low temperatures.

Neither the postponement of the controlled shutdown and nor its completion would impact the nuclear safety, the personnel or the population, the remediation works being carried out in compliance with the specific procedures, the company says.

SNN will communicate the date when Unit 1 will be reconnected to the National Energy System.
