The spot markets (day ahead markets, DAM) of Romania and Bulgaria were connected, the first day of delivery being Thursday, October 28, it is shown in the Transelectrica and Opcom releases.
The new successful coupling is the result of the cooperation between the Designated Electricity Market Operators (OPEED) and the Transmission and System Operators (TSOs) from Bulgaria and Romania, respectively IBEX EAD, OPCOM SA, ESO EAD and CN Transelectrica SA, together with the National Authorities of Regulation (ANRE and EWRC).
“The integration of the Bulgaria-Romania interconnection in SDAC is another major achievement for the completion of the European target market model. CNTEE Transelectrica SA, as a transfer agent for Romania’s offering area, made today the first default trade exchange, for the 28th October 2021, with the transfer agent from Bulgaria,” it is also shown in the Transelectrica release.
“With the inclusion of the RO-BG border, a geographical loop has been closed, and the south-eastern European region is now fully integrated into the Single Market Coupling for the next day. This marks another important step in the process of integrating European markets for the next day of electricity. The coupling operations related to the RO-BG border in SDAC were launched today, Wednesday, October 27, 2021, with the first day of delivery October 28, 2021,” Opcom claims.
The integration of the border between the Bulgaria and Romania bidding areas into the SDAC marks another important step in completing the European target model. In addition to the high-voltage DC line between Greece and Italy, the day ahead markets (DAM) in Greece and Bulgaria are now connected to the north, via the RO-BG interconnection, in SDAC.
