Sustainability Report: OMV Petrom paid about 16 bln. lei to the state budget in 2024

OMV Petrom, the largest integrated energy producer in South-Eastern Europe, announces that, starting this year, sustainability reporting is integrated into the company’s Annual Report. This step reflects the company’s commitment to transparency and responsible business practices, in line with the 2030 Strategy – which sets out the company’s transformation direction for a low-carbon future.

The Sustainability Statement, included in the 2024 Annual Report, is prepared in accordance with the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) and includes detailed environmental, social and governance information.

“We are making significant progress in implementing the 2030 Strategy, which positions us as a leader in the energy transition in the region. Through a balanced mix of investments in low-carbon solutions, alongside the responsible development of traditional activities, we aim to create long-term value for all stakeholders – from shareholders and employees, to partners, customers and communities,” said Christina Verchere, CEO of OMV Petrom.

Thus, in 2024 the company transferred about 16 billion lei through contributions to the state budget, in the form of taxes and dividends. Almost 30% of the investments in 2024 eligible and aligned with the EU Taxonomy, reflecting the company’s commitment to sustainable investments. The portfolio of photovoltaic and wind projects reached 2.4 GW, being the result of strategic acquisitions and partnerships.

The company currently has 900 charging points for electric vehicles, as part of the project to expand the electric mobility infrastructure nationwide.

 

Other key points of the Sustainability Report:

  • Approval of the strategic investment of 750 million euros in the new SAF/HVO unit at Petrobrazi, which will produce sustainable aviation fuel and diesel from renewable sources
  • 17% reduction in Scope 1-2 emissions compared to 2019 levels
  • 11% reduction in Scope 1-3 emissions compared to 2019
  • 80% reduction in methane emissions from Exploration and Production activities compared to 2019
  • 131 million lei in social investments, supporting national and local programs in education, health and the environment, with a positive impact on local communities
  • 32% women in management positions, reflecting OMV Petrom’s commitment to diversity and equal opportunities
