The ENGIE Group is present in 70 countries, has about 170,000 employees (2019) and a turnover of over 60 billion euros. The group has prepared investments of over 11 billion euros for 2019-2021, said Alin Nicolae, Head of Energy Efficiency Solutions & Design, ENGIE Romania at the “Digitalization and Energy Efficiency – Timisoara” conference, organized by Energynomics.
“Strategic development directions include, first of all, renewable production, as ENGIE is the No. 1 in the wind and solar power generation in France and No. 2 in electromobility with a green installed capacity of 24.8 GW. The group is No 1. in the independent production of electricity worldwide, with 21.7 million euros in global contracts in the sale of electricity in the retail segment and with a commitment to withdraw from the coal operating area.
“On the natural gas area, we are the No. 1 as operator of natural gas networks in Europe (transport, distribution, storage and LNG terminals). We are at the forefront of all related to storage operation and injection of green hydrogen in distribution terminals in France. In the future, we want to be the No. 1 worldwide in the area of cooling systems and also No. 2 in the provision of technical services. In terms of customer solutions, our ambitious target is to have up to 5 billion euros invested in solutions between 2019-2021, with around 3.5 billion euros already covered,” said Alin Nicolae.
In Romania, the Group has 4,000 employees, 37,000 customers in the electricity area, 1.86 million customers in the natural gas area and 675,000 energy services contracts, in 2019. “This year’s figures are quite similar,” said Alin Nicolae.
ENGIE owns two wind generation parks in Romania – Braila Winds and Aliseu Eolian, with a combined installed power of 100 MW. These units produced about 253 GWh in 2019.
On the solar area, ENGIE acquired a new park at the end of 2020, Ever Solar, 9.3 MW, with a production of 55 GWh to date, since commissioning.
“As technical solutions, ENGIE comes with some proposals for our clients, based on several areas of specialisation, which are related to both energy consulting and project management for various types of efficiency projects, as well as to renewable energy sources. In terms of energy management, energy performance contracts are still a challenge for the Romanian market. In the consulting area, I can mention the solutions of energy audit and BREEAM certification. We are also very active in the electromobility area and we are pioneers in compressed natural gas (CNG) charging stations, a less developed field in Romania,” he said, before providing details of the business models and financial models proposed by ENGIE Romania.
The conference “Digitalization and Energy Efficiency – Timisoara”, was organized by Energynomics, with the support of our partners ABB, Centrica Business Solutions, Eaton, ENGIE Romania, Enel X Romania, Kawasaki Gas Turbines Europe, Renovatio, Sixt, Wiren.
