Transelectrica and OPCOM announced that the cross-border transaction settlement product at 15 minutes “will be launched in continuous intra-day trading on the Romania-Hungary border within SIDC, in cooperation with the Hungarian parties MAVIR and HUPX,” starting with the delivery day of February 11, 2021 .
“The 15-minute product will be available on the RO-HU border within the SIDC (Single Coupling of Intraday Markets), which will increase opportunities for market participants to adjust their trading positions on the intraday market closer to physical delivery, thus increasing the benefits of electricity trading and reducing their costs with imbalances in case of deviations from the program,” say the two institutions.
“Since November 19, 2019, only the 60-minute cross-border product has been available on the RO-HU border. The new 15-minute time granularity available on the domestic market is expected to facilitate the formation of improved price signals for both electricity producers and suppliers, leading to a more efficient trading process and operating programs. The closing time at the gate, 60 minutes before each quarter of an hour, thus brings closer the physical delivery, allowing the parties to take into account the updated forecast of production and consumption.
The 15-minute settlement interval will lead to increased system flexibility, thus reducing dispatcher commands transmitted to manage real-time imbalances between supply and demand.”
