The Competition Council (CC) will launch on Monday, July 1, the “Fuel price monitor” platform, which will contain information on tariffs in the major petrol stations in Romania, according to an announcement of the institution.

At the end of December 2018, the Competition Council signed a contract with Maguay for the implementation of the application, the contract having a value of 1.42 million lei.

In February, CC president, Bogdan Chiriţoiu, said the web platform and mobile applications will be ready by the middle of this year, according to Agerpres.

“Developing this price monitoring system will lead to market transparency for consumers by enabling them to be informed about the prices charged by the main fuel distribution networks so that they can choose the best price – quality ratio, “said Chiriţoiu.

The Competition Council is also carrying out an analysis on the fuel market, launched after the price of petrol and diesel in Romania, without taxes, exceeded the European average. Following the investigation, which will be ready in the coming period, the Authority will come up with recommendations for increasing competition in the fuel market.
