The Energy Ministry is considering 16 cogeneration projects worth a combined 780 million euros

The latest information (in RO) from the Ministry of Energy shows that a total of 17 projects have been submitted to receive support for investments in high-efficiency cogeneration in the district heating sector. The remaining 16 are still under consideration, for which the aid would amount to around 780 million euro. The guidelines launched on May 30 had a budget of almost 362 million euro.

Autoro SRL has withdrawn the project for the realization of a cogeneration power plant based on the thermal load curve of SACET Râmnicu Vâlcea, for which it was requesting a grant of 111 million lei. The new application, submitted in July, has a slightly higher amount of 120 million lei. Four applications remained on the Energy Ministry’s list from the first wave of submissions by the end of May.

The number of applications accelerated at the end of July, when 7 applications were submitted in three days, amounting to 772 million lei, or almost 20% of the total now under analysis.

cState aid for high-efficiency cogeneration and modernization of district heating networks finances the development of flexible gas-fired generation capacity for high-efficiency combined heat and power (CHP) in the district heating sector.

Investment Area 5.1 – Supporting investment in high efficiency cogeneration in the district heating sector aims to achieve the national targets for the retrofit and construction of high efficiency cogeneration plants to ensure that the 2030 Green Deal targets are met.

In the investment area 5.3 – Support for the modernization and development of the smart district heating network, 17 applications for funding were submitted, of which one was rejected in the non-priority type B Call and one was accepted in the priority type A Call. In total, funding requests of around 3 billion lei (607 million euro) were submitted, with 44% of the requested amounts coming from the nine priority projects.

On non-priority calls, four contracts worth almost one billion euro are already underway (Suceava, Craiova, Constanta and Cluj-Napoca), and three other applications are under evaluation (Timisoara, Arad and Bucharest).
