The Ministry of Economy (MEEMA) will take all legal steps to assist Nuclearelectrica in the procurement process of the Feldioara Branch of the National Uranium Company (CNU), it is stated in the explanatory note of the project of a new Government Decision launched in public debate yesterday.

“Regarding the processing line from the CNU Feldioara Branch, SNN has expressed its intention to purchase this asset necessary for the processing of uranium oxide so that SNN will get to concentrate, within the company, the entire manufacturing cycle of the Candu type nuclear fuel, except for the extraction (mining) of natural uranium. At the same time, the Ministry of Economy has expressed, in principle, the intention to make all the legal steps necessary to carry out the transfer of this asset from CNU to SNN,” the document shows.

In fact, Nuclearelectrica has already launched a tender for hiring a consulting firm to carry out the due-diligence process. The consulting contract will be worth 1.9 million lei.

Last week, the CNU leadership requested a meeting with the prefect of Brașov, Mihai Văsii, to present to him “the very difficult situation that the company is going through,” according to an information from the Prefecture, quoted by the Bună Ziua Brașov publication.

“There was also discussed the authorization procedures from the point of view of environmental protection, considering that, at the unit in Feldioara, the part of water decanting and purification is technically related to the other installations,” the Prefecture informs. On the other hand, according to the information of APM Brasov, “Uzina R” has integrated environmental authorization, valid for 10 years, respectively 2012 – 2022.
