The coronavirus crisis is also seen in the figures for new car registrations, the market falling by 32% in March and by 22% for the first quarter. It was the worst month of March in the last five years, with 6,654 cars sold, the historical high being in March 2008 when over 23,000 new cars were registered. The worst month of March was in 2013, with under 3,400 cars sold, according to Hotnews.ro.
DRPCIV data for the new car market showed a 32% decrease in March, but there were also brands with lower declines: Renault -63%, Ford -55%, Opel -74% or Dacia -39%. If 18 Smart cars were registered in March last year, now it was only one.
For the first three months the market for new cars fell by 22%, from almost 36,000 cars, to below 30,000.
