The Polytechnic University of Timisoara is hosting the 7th edition of the Regional South-East European Conference (RSEEC 2024), organised by CIGRE Romania and co-organised by Transelectrica, Delgaz Grid and Rețele Electrice. The event is realised with the support of CIGRE Paris, marked by the presence of CIGRE Secretary General Philippe Adam.

Focussing on new technologies applied in power systems, the event’s agenda includes scientific paper sessions, technical tutorials, partner company exhibitions, the Next Generation Network Contest and a technical visit to a power station.

During the exhibition, the companies that will present their innovative solutions and projects at their stands are Transelectrica, Rețele Electrici, Electromontaj, EnergoBit, GE Vernova, CTC Global, Enevo, Energotech, Comel Transformers, Skyline Drones, Andel Environmental, Roxtec Romania and Shemar.

The RSEEC 2024 scientific paper competition is addressed to students, master and doctoral students in the field of electro-energy from all faculties of all faculties in the country. The competition jury is composed of Ciprian Diaconu – president of CIGRE Romania, Doru Vătău – professor at Politehnica University of Timișoara, Anamaria Iamandi – project manager power systems at Tractebel, Oana Leu – project manager at Transelectrica and Teodor Diaconu – counsellor at the Ministry of Energy.

“Conseil Internationale des Grands Réseaux Électriques – CIGRE is the largest and oldest professional association dedicated to the electro-energy sector, founded in 1921. After 1990, the Romanian National Committee of CIGRE represents the national industry within CIGRE International. Every two years, we organize the RSEEC conference in a major university, because we want to have the young generation of energy specialists with us. The future belongs to them! Climate change, the current geopolitical situation, new digital technologies are driving a revolution in the energy sector. At European level, we are building the Energy Union, which has one single goal: to provide citizens with a secure, sustainable and affordable electricity supply. In order to implement the Green Deal, the European Commission has recently shown that, at EU level, investments of almost €600 billion are needed by 2030 to adapt the electricity and energy systems to the concepts of decentralization, digitalization and flexibility. All this requires, first and foremost, well-trained people, a specialized workforce. This is why we organize RSEEC in university centres: the energy sector needs the youth and enthusiasm of students, master’s, doctoral and PhD students, along with the passion and dedication of those with experience in the field. I am convinced that this 7th edition of RSEEC will be a success”, said Mr. Ciprian Diaconu, President of CIGRE Romania.

“RSEEC has become a real tradition not only for the energy sector in Romania, but also for the entire region. This year marks an important first, being the first edition specifically dedicated to young energy engineers, which we frame as a Next Generation Network conference. Power grids are the backbone of the energy sector and modern society, and we, young engineers, have the responsibility to work with CIGRE’s senior experts to identify innovative solutions to the challenges of the energy transition. This edition of the RSEEC will have a considerable impact, giving energy scientists the opportunity to present their technical and scientific achievements, while participating companies will showcase the latest technological solutions in the field”, said Mr. Bogdan Leu, President of CIGRE Romania Next Generation Network, the youth branch of CIGRE Romania.
