The average daily price of electricity on the spot market in Romania has reached the maximum of the last six months, with electricity delivered on Thursday, August 1st, costing on average 76.06 euros/ MWh or 360 lei/ MWh. This price level is characteristic of a difficult winter period, a higher price not registered in Romania since January 24, when an MWh was traded on average at 84.7 euros/ MWh, according to profit.ro.

The main causes of the price posted for Thursday are the high level of consumption, which also reached averages of over 8,000 MW, doubled by the low level of water, which led to a reduction of hydro power production to a level of 1,500 MW in the first hours of Wednesday. The maximum hourly price for the energy traded on Wednesdays with delivery on Thursday between 19-21 hours was over 95 euros/ MWh or 450 lei/ MWh.

The price in Romania is almost double that of the Western European markets, in France or Germany, the DAM price (day ahead) of electricity being slightly of over 40 euros / MWh.
