Companies must account for the environmental and financial repercussions of poorly planned projects, which often fail to fully consider their impact on nature, emphasized Petru Nicolae, CEO & General Director of Geostud. “There is a big difference between renewable energy and green projects. Not all projects using renewables are truly green. They can harm the environment in ways we are not currently addressing properly,” Nicolae explained at the conference “Digitalization and Energy Efficiency – Bucharest” organised by Energynomics together with the Italian Chamber of Commerce for Romania – CCIpR.
Founded in 2001, Geostud specializes in environmental studies, climate change impact assessments, and geotechnical services. The company boasts over 23 years of experience, providing comprehensive solutions for project planning, execution, and monitoring. Nicolae highlighted, “We operate our own laboratories to analyze environmental factors such as air quality, noise, water, and biodiversity. Our expertise also includes advanced modeling and technical documentation.”
With a team engaged in national and international projects, Geostud plays a pivotal role in some of Romania’s largest infrastructure and energy projects. “We provide innovative and digital solutions for analyzing land movements and stabilizing terrains, ensuring projects align with sustainable development goals,” said Nicolae.
As the energy sector evolves, Geostud emphasizes the importance of applying emerging technologies with care. “In this era of rapid technological advancements, not all solutions are proven or well-tested. It is crucial to rely on experienced consultants to ensure projects do no significant harm to the environment,” Nicolae stated.
The company is also deeply involved in projects promoting circular economy principles, aiming to minimize waste and maximize resource efficiency. “We are driven by a purpose that goes beyond developing projects. Our goal is to shape a resilient future that protects nature and wildlife while addressing climate change adaptation and mitigation,” Nicolae added.
Geostud has contributed to initiatives like the Three Seas Initiative, focusing on renewable energy and energy efficiency in the Danube Delta. Nicolae pointed out, “Every renewable energy project competes for the same land, resources, and space. If not optimized, such projects can lead to costs for repairing environmental damage that were not initially considered.”
By advocating for better planning and integration of sustainability principles, Geostud highlights the importance of distinguishing between merely renewable and genuinely green projects. “We must consider not just profit and margins but also the costs of repairing the damage caused by investments that weren’t carefully planned,” Nicolae urged.

Geostud actively participates in European projects with large consortia, fostering innovation and exchanging expertise. “Our partnerships span over 40 organizations and 23 countries, reflecting a collaborative effort to create sustainable and impactful solutions,” said Nicolae.
By combining environmental stewardship, advanced technology, and a commitment to sustainability, Geostud is shaping the future of infrastructure and energy projects while mitigating their environmental impact.
