Transelectrica respects its commitments and implements projects to modernize the national electricity transmission infrastructure, through important investments to meet the goals of energy security and strengthening the resilience and adequacy of the network. In this sense, the Company marked, on Thursday, March 30, 2023, in the presence of the Deputy General Secretary of the Government, Lucian Rusu, as well as the local authorities, the completion of the re-engineering process of the 220/110 kV Iaz Electric Power Station (Caraș-Severin county ), with an investment of approximately 62 million lei, from its own funds.

The works, carried out over a period of 46 months and executed by the Siemens Energy SRL – Electrogrup SA association, provided for the replacement of existing equipment with state-of-the-art equipment and high-performance technologies and bringing the installations to a level of safety and reliability corresponding to the area, contributing to the increase in quality electricity transmission service. Thus, the Iaz Station was endowed with new equipment that increased the degree of efficiency of the exploitation activity and reduced the specific energy consumption and polluting emissions, in accordance with the related legislative provisions and the general energy regulations imposed by ANRE. The need for the rapid implementation of this investment project of modernization and refurbishment was realized taking into account the age of the Iaz station, which was put into operation since 1975.

The Iaz 220/110 kV Transformer Electric Station represents a connection node within the national energy system through the connected 220 kV lines, being an important objective for the operation of the power system and for the supply of electricity in the western part of the country.

“It is important not to forget that investments in electricity transmission infrastructure must be prioritized just like road infrastructure, having a direct influence on national security and economic development. Moreover, if over 20 years ago, we were only discussing the role of Transelectrica in the National Energy System, today we are discussing an integrated position in the European network. I therefore welcome the efforts of Transelectrica for the transition to a digitalization of the processes in the stations. I wish you to complete as many investments as possible, because they represent tangible evidence that, for the Government of Romania, the energy infrastructure is one of the important elements for restarting the engines of the economy,” said Lucian Rusu, Deputy Secretary General of the Government.

“In order to achieve a modern and digital electricity transport infrastructure, compatible with the European standards and policies in the energy-environment field regarding the fulfillment of energy efficiency processes, Transelectrica maintains an alert investment pace in order to develop the network by carrying out strategic projects with an impact on national level. The implementation of investments of the type made in the Iaz Station brings us ever closer to meeting the targets assumed at the European level regarding the energy transition in the medium and long term. Through the 10-year Development Plan, the company has undertaken complex programs to re-engineer and modernize electrical substations whose role is to optimize the operation of the National Electric Power System. Refurbishing this station and bringing the facilities to a level of safety and reliability appropriate to the area from an energy point of view, using the current technology available worldwide, supports the serious commitment assumed for investment and modernization. In the next period, the rate of development of the company in the investment area will be almost double,” added Gabriel Andronache, the president of the Transelectrica Directorate.

The company is carrying out an ambitious 10-year network development plan, approved for the period 2022-2031, which includes an extensive investment program, worth approximately 7.1 billion lei.

Currently, 59 electric transformer stations managed by the national transport operator are being modernized and re-engineered, 14 are being re-engineered, and another 8 stations are to enter the first re-engineering process in the next period.
