The project to build a new 400 kV overhead power line between Constanța Nord and Medgidia Sud, proposed by Transelectrica, obtained funding of 22.9 million euros from the budget of the Modernization Fund, according to the European Commission Decision C (2021) 9135, of 6 December 2021. This is the first Romanian project approved under this European funding mechanism.
The payment of the funds was made on December 13, 2021, to the Ministry of Energy, as the competent authority for the management and development of the Modernization Fund.
The construction of the new 400 kV overhead power line between Constanța Nord and Medgidia Sud substations will allow the integration of additional production of electricity from renewable sources of about 685 MW in the Dobrogea area. It will also make it possible to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by about 16,000 tons per year.
The 400 kV Constanța Nord – Medgidia Sud overhead power line (OHL), on the list of Transelectrica’s 20 strategically important national projects, involves the construction of 35 new kilometers of the overhead power line, 2 kilometers of the underground power line, and the expansion Constanța Nord and Medgidia Sud stations. The implementation of the project will take place between 2021 and 2024.
The implementation of the project The new 400 kV overhead power line Constanța Nord – Medgidia Sud will contribute to the development of the electric transmission network in the Dobrogea area, respectively to the security, flexibility and adequacy of the National Energy System, providing the premises for putting into operation new energy renewable sources.
