The maintenance activity is the factor that ensures the stability of the energy infrastructure and contributes to maintaining the operational safety of the network in addition to the realization of new investment projects. In the perspective of 2024, the estimated degree of achievement of the RET Maintenance Program is 100%, with a value of over 127 million lei. The current state of the network, the degree of achievement of the maintenance program, the specific actions of preparing for the cold season and the outlook for 2025 are priority topics for the transmission and system operator during this period, according to a company release.
These were the subject of an internal technical analysis attended by the Company’s executive management, the specialized departments responsible and involved in the process, the Territorial Transport Branches, as well as representatives of SMART SA, Transelectrica’s contractor for the minor maintenance works. During 2024, the minor maintenance activity was efficiently and promptly ensured by SMART SA’s work formations, which promptly responded to RET’s maintenance and repair needs. The minor maintenance works and the services carried out by SMART SA thus represented an important part of the 2024 Maintenance Program, contributing alongside the major maintenance works to the stability and security of the national electricity transmission network.
The National Electric Power Transmission Company Transelectrica SA manages an annual RET Maintenance Program that includes projects adapted to the current needs of the national electricity transmission network. It is implemented through minor maintenance works, ensured through the interventions of SMART SA, a subsidiary of Transelectrica, and through major maintenance works ensured by contractual partners selected on the basis of competitive procedures.
Among the most important major maintenance projects included in the Program is the work for the LEA 400 kV double circuit Șânțareni – Kozlodui, interconnection line with Bulgaria, with a value of over 34 million lei, for which current repairs and which will be completed in the first part of November. This work contributes to increasing the operational safety of the Electric Transmission Network in the southern part of the country and ensures cross-border energy exchanges with Bulgaria.
Also, in order to facilitate the maintenance activity, Transelectrica uses modern technologies that ensure both the continuity of the supply of consumers and the availability of the Electric Transmission Network. Among these technologies is the working under voltage technique (LST), which allows maintenance work to be carried out as planned, preventing congestion in the network. In this sense, an important major maintenance work that will start in 2025 and will include an LST component is the one on LEA 400 kV Cernavodă – Gura Ialomiței Circuit 1.
The Electric Transmission Network Maintenance Program is essential in ensuring the reliability, safety and efficiency of the National Electric Power System. Also foreseeing a perspective of an anticipatory approach, the implementation of the Maintenance Program carried out by Transelectrica is important in preventing unplanned interruptions by identifying and fixing non-conformities in time and ensures an increased operational efficiency of the equipment, minimizing energy losses in the electricity transport process.
The electrical transmission network managed by Compania Nationala de Transport al Energiei Electrice Transelectrica SA currently has a length of approximately 9,140 kilometers of 400 kV, 220 kV and 110 kV overhead power lines and 81 electrical transformer stations. In the last six years, the National Transport and System Operator has built over 400 kilometers of new 400 kV overhead power lines, and by 2030, 740 kilometers of high-voltage overhead power lines are under construction with a total value of over 380 million euros.
