Transelectrica announces that it has obtained the necessary financing for the 400 kV Isaccea – Tulcea Vest overhead power line (OPL, LEA) project, an investment of 64 million euros from the Modernization Fund, according to a report submitted to the Bucharest Stock Exchange.

“The European Commission, pursuant to Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2020/1001 and Directive 2003/87/EC, approved by Decision COM C(2024) 4190 final/12.06.2024, for non-refundable funding from the Modernization Fund , the investment project of the National Electric Energy Transport Company “Transelectrica” S.A. – “Pilot Project DigiTEL Power Lines of the Future – Transition of LEA 400 kV Isaccea – Tulcea Vest from single circuit to double circuit”, the report states.

The non-refundable value of the project is of 64 million euros.

The project aims to build a double-circuit 400 kV overhead power line, between the Isaccea and Tulcea Vest stations, by replacing the existing single-circuit 400 kV overhead power line, installing two 400 kV cells in the two stations and using innovative tubular poles .

The general objective of the project is to increase the integration capacity of new renewable energy sources in the Dobrogea region, where the renewable energy potential is the highest in the country, but the technical constraints given by the limits of the existing overhead power lines do not allow the integration of new sources in this area. By modernizing and doubling the transport capacity between Isaccea and Tulcea Vest, the transfer capacity to neighboring areas will also increase.

The transition of the 400 kV Isaccea – Tulcea Vest LEA from single circuit to double circuit represents a viable solution to avoid overloads and to increase the connection capacity to the National Electroenergetic System of power plants from renewable sources in the Dobrogea region.

The project is included in the Electric Transmission Network Development Plan, period 2022-2031, as a project that will contribute to the integration of renewable energy sources and new power plants and will strengthen the transport capacity from Dobrogea to the rest of the system.
