Siliștea station is one of the main three natural gas compression stations (along with Șinca and Onești), located on the main transport directions of the national network, which have an installed capacity of about 28.94 MW, with a maximum compression capacity of 650,000 Nmc / h, i.e. 15.6 million Nmc / day.

With two groups of 3.2 MW each, the compression station from Siliștea has been operating since 1980, the date of initial commissioning.

The modernization is part of the major development project for the interconnection of the National Transport System – SNT with the international transport pipeline Tranzit 1 and reverse flow Isaccea. The project is of common interest at European level through its significant contribution to the integration of the energy market, with a cross-border impact. By implementing the project, the supply of Bulgaria can be ensured on the corridor SNT – Onești – Șendreni – Isaccea – Tranzit 1 – Negru Vodă. Also, in case of taking over the gases from the Black Sea continental shelf in the Transit 1 pipeline, it can be ensured simultaneously the supply of Bulgaria, the supply of deficient areas in the SNT, as well as the directing of a quantity of gas to Podișor – Moşu or the export of a quantity of natural gas to the Republic of Moldova.
