Turda introduced 20 electric buses purchased with European funds and thus became the first city in Romania with exclusively electric public transport. The total investment was about 10.5 million euro.
The Mayor of Turda, Cristian Matei, said that a new local transport company was set up, directly subordinated to the Local Council, according to zf.ro.
“Turda is the first city in Romania that has exclusively electric public transport after we introduced, on Monday, 20 electric buses purchased with European funds, so that we can offer civilized and non-polluting transport services to citizens. We also set up a new public transport company, Urban Public Transport (TUP) Turda, which is directly subordinated to the Local Council. The 20 electric buses that make up the new company’s fleet have modern facilities, with video surveillance cameras, GPS systems, special ramps for people with disabilities, air conditioning, Wi-Fi and e-ticketing systems,” said Matei.
