Approximately 30% of Romanian international road haulage companies in the European Union will not be able to survive the coronavirus crisis and, of the remaining 50% will leave Romania in the next 18 months due to the provisions of the Mobility Package 1, say representatives of the National Union of Road Carriers from Romania (UNTRR).
“UNTRR is outraged that the Mobility 1 Package is advancing rapidly following the legislative adoption process at European level, under political pressure from Western Road Alliance states, despite the unprecedented crisis facing EU road transport in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. While acknowledging the need for modernization and harmonized application of social rules in the field of road transport in the European Union (EU), we would like to point out that the current agreement on the Mobility Package 1, finalized by the Finnish Presidency during the trialogue negotiations with the European Parliament (EP) and the European Commission (EC) on December 11, 2019, contradicts the goal pursued by the EC in 2017 – “to help the sector remain competitive in a fair social transition to clean energy and digitalization,” the carriers said in a statement quoted by Agerpres.
