Small consumers will be the most affected by the increase in electricity bills, starting from April 2025, when the energy price ceiling scheme will end, said Laurențiu Urluescu, president of the Romanian Energy Suppliers Association (AFEER).

“From April 1, next year, and don’t think it’s a hoax – the price capping scheme ends, and electricity and natural gas consumers will be on the free market. Especially the electricity consumer who has a consumption of under 100 kilowatt-hours per month, who now benefit from the 0.68 lei tariff, which is a completely unsustainable tariff, unfortunately there will be an increase in this rate. From our estimates, those who consume about 50 kilowatt-hours per monthly they will have to pay between 20 and 25 lei. (…) We are glad that we have seen quite a lot of support from the authorities to try to unblock the aid scheme for vulnerable consumers. There are consumers in Romania who need help , but not all – and the help should be directed directly to those who really need it”, said Laurentiu Urluescu, quoted by Agerpres.

At the same time, he specified that from 2026 there is an obligation for the supplier to include in the natural gas bill for all natural gas consumers the cost of carbon certificates in the consumer bills.
