USR submitted an amendment to the Government’s Emergency Ordinance no. 32/2024, which aims to eliminate the obligation of prosumers to install energy storage batteries.

“Today we submitted an amendment by which we eliminate the ineptitude by which the state tried to pass the responsibility for storage to prosumers. We are talking about a measure that, on the one hand, has no way of solving the problems in the system, because the storage deficit is very large. On the other hand, the prosumer sector is hit and discouraged, the only one that has performed in increasing Romania’s energy production capacity in recent years. Thus, not only would the problem not be solved, but an even bigger one would be created. Yes, storage is required. But through incentives for market investments, including among prosumers,” said USR deputy Cristina Prună, vice-president of the Commission for Industries and Services, according to an USR press release.

The draft law on the approval of the Government Emergency Ordinance no. 32/2024 for the amendment and completion of the Government Emergency Ordinance no. 27/2022 regarding the measures applicable to final customers in the electricity and natural gas market during the period April 1, 2022 – March 31 2023, as well as for the modification and completion of some normative acts in the field of energy and the adoption of some measures in the field of energy, was adopted, decisively, on June 26, by the Chamber of Deputies.

USR mentions that deputy Cristina Prună and relevant associations publicly requested, in July, President Klaus Iohannis to resubmit the law to Parliament.

The President sent the law back to the Parliament on July 18, and it is currently in the re-examination procedure in the Senate.
