The Republic of Moldova cannot terminate, at this moment, the natural gas supply contract with Gazprom, as they are used to ensure energy to Transnistria, in order to avoid a humanitarian crisis in that separatist region, the Minister of Energy from Chisinau, Victor Parlicov, said in an interview with Agerpres.
“Gazprom maintains a fairly important role in ensuring gas supply in the region to the left of the Dniester,” said Parlicov.
On the other hand, the Moldovan official specifies that, at the moment, Romania supplies only 3% of the electricity consumed by the Republic of Moldova, and most of the energy comes from the Cuciurgan plant in Transnistria.
Victor Parlicov also talked about the joint projects between Romania and Moldova in the energy field, especially about the Suceava-Balti and Iasi-Ungheni interconnection networks.
