Electricity and gas bills for the population have no reason to become more expensive neither from January 1, 2020, nor in July next year, when the price of gas at the producer will be liberalized, said the Minister of Economy, Energy and Business Environment, Virgil Popescu.
Popescu said that the liberal government has already taken measures to repeal GEO 114/2018 on the energy side, so that the price of gas at the producer will be liberalized again on July 1, 2020, and the ceiling of 68 lei per MWh will be excluded. At that time, the volume of gas that will reach the market will be higher, so prices have no reason to increase, he said, according to Agerpres.
Regarding the electricity market, Romania obtained a one-year derogation from the European Commission for the implementation of Regulation 943, meaning a new market liberalization, a regulation that should have been implemented on January 1, 2020. Thus, prices for domestic consumers will continue to be regulated throughout the coming year.
