Valea Jiului Energy Complex, financed with 50 mln. lei

The Ministry of Energy initiates two Government Decisions by which 50 million lei are allocated from the Budgetary Reserve Fund at the disposal of the Prime Minister for the financing of the new company Complexul Energetic Valea Jiului and by which a General Economic Interest Service is established for implementation activities safety in mines and coal mining in Valea Jiului.

According to a press release from the institution, for the provision of the public interest service by Societatea Complexul Energetic Valea Jiului SA, in the remaining months of 2023, compensation in the amount of 65.8 million lei will be granted, fully borne from the state budget , through the budget of the Ministry of Energy, in order to support the costs of the units in the closing process, costs that are not related to current production.

Complexul Energetic Valea Jiului SA will take over the functional assets of Complexul Energetic Hunedoara SA in the next period and the 2,000 miners and staff from Complexul Energetic Hunedoara will be employed in the new Complex. Moreover, company representatives are holding discussions with potential investors in green energy, in order to diversify energy production activities in the area and ensure new jobs and a decent standard of living for the residents of Văia Jiului, states the Ministry of Energy.

“Promise kept: we secure the present and shape the future for Valea Jiului. We tried to accelerate a series of steps, where we found delays. Our objective is not to leave anyone behind. The two GDs are living proof of the continuation mining and giving a new perspective to the Jiului Valley. The area has a future, we are looking for potential investors in green energy, to diversify energy production activities and ensure new jobs and a decent standard of living for all residents of the Jiului Valley,” said Sebastian Burduja, Minister of Energy.

These amounts will be followed by approximately 300 million lei granted for rectification, which will support coal-based energy production activities, making mines safe and preparing for the transition to other energy production sources in the area.
