VERBUND Wind Power Romania, the Romanian subsidiary of the Austrian leader VERBUND, has acquired a fully developed wind project from Monsson, an international renewable energy solutions group specializing in wind and solar energy, energy storage and green hydrogen.
The wind project in Caraş-Severin County has a total capacity of 272 MW and will have an estimated annual production of approximately 569 GWh. The project was acquired at the Ready to Build stage, with all relevant permits and connection points. It is expected to enter the construction phase in 2026.
“We are happy and proud to have started this cooperation with VERBUND, a leading Austrian power company and one of the largest hydropower producers in Europe. As we have anticipated for some time, the need for clean energy as a central point of development of the energy sector in Romania and Europe is growing,” said Sebastian Enache, Head of M&A and member of the Board of Directors at Monsson.
This transaction underlines VERBUND’s intention to expand its portfolio in the Romanian renewable energy market, where the company has been active since 2012, by operating the 226 MW Casimcea wind farm in Tulcea County.
“We are delighted to collaborate with Monsson, a well-known and respected company in Romania, in the acquisition of this project and look forward to future opportunities that can promote the acceleration of the energy transition in our country. At VERBUND, we continuously seek to stimulate the growth of the clean energy sector in Romania, in line with our sustainable approach to business,” added Adrian Borotea, General Manager of VERBUND Wind Power Romania.
VERBUND’s strategy foresees a significant expansion in the field of solar and wind energy, so that, by 2030, approximately 25% of the Austrian group’s total electricity production will be generated from onshore photovoltaic and wind sources. Romania is defined as one of the company’s strategic target markets to achieve this objective.
