The price of electricity from renewable sources will decrease in the coming period, as the installed capacities will increase, but the price of energy transport will increase significantly, due to the lack of investments in networks.
“In the near future, the price of energy will drop quite a lot, while the price of transport will increase. But, with the new installations that will deliver even more energy, a restructuring of the networks will be needed, and then the incidence of the energy transport price will increase from 300 lei as it is now to 1,000 lei”, believes Vincenzo Moderno, CEO Modvin, vice president of the Italian Chamber of Commerce for Romania, at the conference “Digitalization and energy efficiency – Timișoara”, organized by Energynomics.
At the same time, this situation will create the conditions for a new business opportunity, namely the storage of electricity in batteries. The demand for such systems is already growing in the big cities in Romania.
According to Moderno, the electricity grids in Romania were a “very well established” structure, which has depreciated because the current grid concessionaires, namely Enel, E.On, CEZ and Electrica, “until now have invested nothing”. Thus, although the renewable energy installations commissioned in the period 2008-2012 began to inject energy into the grid, the grids remained the same.
Another difficulty is the lack of materials necessary to increase the production capacity of photovoltaic energy. The reason is limited supplies from China.
“There are many interesting projects, but we have no materials. I spoke to some suppliers from China and they have already sold out 60% of all available stock. I don’t know if they only told us so to get us in trouble, but that’s what it is. It is a reality. The price of materials starts to rise and they cannot be found. We have a lot of projects that would be eligible, but we don’t have the possibility to put them into operation”, added Moderno.

Modvin company was founded in 2008, and currently installs 2-2.5 MW of photovoltaics per month. The company says that it is not affected by the reduction in supplies of materials from China as it has sufficient stocks to meet customer needs.
